Major flooding continues to impact parts of Victoria and Tasmania

Major flooding continues for many rivers in Victoria and Tasmania today.

Communities, particularly those living on or near any rivers, creeks and streams or in low lying areas are advised to stay up to date with the latest forecast and warnings via the Bureau's website and BOM Weather app and follow the advice of emergency services.

Victoria

Flood impacts will continue over the weekend and into next week, with widespread moderate to major flooding across central and northern Victoria.

Major flooding is occurring or is forecast for the Wimmera, Avoca, Loddon, Campaspe, Goulburn, Broken, Seven and Castle creeks, Ovens and King and the Murray rivers.

Several minor to moderate Flood Warnings are in place.

Tasmania

Widespread significant flooding is occurring across the northern half of Tasmania.

Flood waters will continue to move downstream over the weekend in the Tamar river system. River levels in other catchments are easing.

The situation is being monitoring and flood warnings will be updated as the downstream peaks are forecast.

Major Flood Warnings are in place for the Meander and Macquarie rivers.

  • Macquarie flood peak has passed Longford
  • Meander flood peak has passed Strathbridge

Moderate Flood Warning for South Esk

  • South Esk flood peak is approaching Perth and is expected to cause a second higher peak at Longford.
  • Moderate flooding expected in lower South Esk and Trevallyn Pond as floodwaters from Macquarie, Meander and South Esk combine.
  • Flooding in the lower South Esk is expected to continue through the weekend.

Minor Flood Warnings are in place for North Esk and Mersey rivers.

Flooding has eased along River Derwent (including Ouse) and Forth river.

Flooding has eased in coastal catchments in the north-west, north and north-east.
