11/08/2015

More than 500 scientists and 23 agencies have united to deliver the National Marine Science Plan – a strategy addressing the role marine science can play in tackling some of the key challenges facing Australia and the world's economic, social and environmental future.

Vicki Middleton, Acting Director of Meteorology and Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau of Meteorology congratulated John Gunn, Chair of the National Marine Science Committee on the delivery of the Plan.

"The Bureau of Meteorology strongly supports the recommendations of the National Marine Science Plan, which is closely aligned with the Bureau's own Marine Strategy.

"The Bureau is one of Australia’s major marine science agencies contributing to the safety sustainability, well-being and prosperity of Australia’s $47 billion marine 'Blue' economy," said Ms Middleton.

The National Marine Science Plan was launched and widely endorsed at Australian Parliament House on Tuesday 11 August 2015.
