New Bureau of Meteorology Regional Director for Victoria

02/07/2012

Ms Tarini Casinader has been appointed as the Bureau of Meteorology’s Regional Director for Victoria, and formally commenced in this role today.

Bureau Acting Deputy Director (Services), Mike Bergin, said Ms Casinader brings a wealth of experience to the role having commenced as a weather forecaster in Sydney in 1979.

“Following this she completed a Master of Engineering degree which led to appointments as a hydrologist, and later manager of the New South Wales severe weather section for five years,” Mr Bergin said.

“Ms Casinader has held several senior management positions spanning weather services, project management of the Bureau’s Collins Street (Docklands) relocation in 2004, and most recently led the secretariat and corporate communication team.

“The role of Regional Director is the most senior position in our Victoria Regional Office. With this role comes great responsibility in leading a committed team in providing essential services to the public, and liaising with partners including local and state government and emergency services agencies.

“Ms Casinader’s appointment comes after the retirement of Dr Mark Williams, who provided exceptional service as the Bureau’s Regional Director until last year.

“Since Dr William’s departure Mr Shoni Maguire, Mr John Nairn and Mr Ted Williams have acted in this role, and we thank them for their outstanding contribution during recent severe weather and flooding events that have affected Victoria,” Mr Bergin said.

The Bureau has been providing continuous meteorological services to the Australian public for more than 100 years, since 1908.

The Bureau’s current strategic focus is to provide Australians with environmental intelligence for safety, sustainability, well-being and prosperity.
