Bureau?s new homepage the shape of things to come
03/04/2013
Visitors to the Bureau of Meteorology’s website will find a new look from today (www.bom.gov.au).
Last year the Bureau undertook extensive user testing of its website and has used this feedback to redesign its homepage.
Some of the changes include:
• Greater prominence for weather warnings;
• Access to local weather information by clicking on a real-time satellite image;
• Promotional feature for new products to remind users of the broad range of services available; and
• Improved access for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
The Bureau's website is the most visited Australian Government website and among the top ten most visited websites in Australia with more than 3.3 billion page views recorded last year.
Currently the new design only applies to the homepage, but further enhancements will follow this first step.
Australian Government agencies are required to ensure information and services are accessible to people of all abilities. Changes to the Bureau’s website to meet the WCAG 2.0 standard are also being rolled out.
All links to Bureau information on the home page remain. To help regular website users adjust to these changes a help page has been set up, showing where their favourite links can now be found.
