Damaging winds and dangerous surf conditions for Queensland and New South Wales coast

21/07/2022

Issued: Thursday 21 July 2022, 4:30pm AEST

An East Coast Low developing off the south-east Queensland coast is expected to remain offshore but bring damaging winds and waves to the Queensland coast from today. The system is expected to bring similar conditions to the northern New South Wales coast over coming days.

Warnings for dangerous surf conditions are current for parts of the southern Queensland and northern NSW coasts. Dangerous surf conditions are expected to cause localised damage and coastal erosion in affected areas.

Warnings for locally damaging winds with gusts up to 90km/hr are also current for parts of the southern Queensland coast during Friday.

While there may be some locally heavy falls in central and south-east Queensland and northern NSW, the Bureau does not expect to issue a Flood Watch for this event. There are still a number of flood warnings current for inland NSW.

The situation will be continually monitored and the Bureau will update its warnings and forecasts regularly.

Communities are encouraged to keep up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings through the Bureau's website and BOM Weather app and follow the advice of emergency services.
