A warm and sunny Christmas day forecast for most of Australia

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued its official Christmas Day forecast with most of Australia set for a warm and sunny day. The exception will be north-east New South Wales, much of Queensland and the Northern Territory with isolated thunderstorms expected across those regions.

New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory can expect a warm and sunny Christmas Day, with a slightly cooler afternoon along the east coast.

Sydney will be mostly sunny with a maximum of 28 degrees and light winds later in the day.

Canberra will be warm to hot and sunny with a maximum of 30 degrees with light to moderate winds.

Victoria can expect sunshine across much of the state, however slightly cooler conditions in the south along the coast and north of the ranges along the Murray River.

Melbourne will be sunny with a maximum of 27 degrees with light to moderate winds.

South Australia can also expect a warm Christmas Day across most of the state, with a possible shower in the far north-east.

Adelaide will be sunny with a maximum of 30 degrees with light to moderate winds.

Western Australia will see a hot Christmas Day with slightly cooler conditions in the south and south-west regions. Humid conditions will cause storms across the Kimberley.

Perth will be sunny with a maximum of 30 degrees with some light winds in the afternoon.

Northern Territory will see widespread showers and thunderstorms across much of the state on Christmas Day, with wet conditions along the top end including Darwin.

Darwin can expect showers with a possible storm and a maximum of 33 degrees.

Queensland is forecast to see showers and thunderstorms across inland Queensland, in the north tropical and central coasts, however south-east Queensland will see a cloudy but warm and mostly dry Christmas day.

Brisbane will be partly cloudy with a maximum of 31 degrees.

Tasmania will be mostly cool with increasing cloud cover and showers, particularly through west and south Tasmania.

Hobart will be partly cloudy with possible late showers and light to moderate winds with a maximum of 21 degrees.
