West Takone radar data available online

The Bureau of Meteorology's upgrade of infrastructure at the West Takone radar has reached a stage where the radar data will return to the Bureau's website.
Bureau of Meteorology Tasmania Regional Director, Mr John Bally, said radar data will be available to the public from today, although there will still be outages until the refurbishment is completed in early July.
"There will be periods of a few hours at a time where the radar data will be unavailable while systems are integrated and tested. We will make every effort to keep these outages to a minimum," Mr Bally said.
"The Bureau is aware how many people in the community rely on the West Takone radar and we are working to return the radar to full service as quickly as possible."
The refurbishment includes work on the radar dome, the internal structure of the tower and the replacement of the site's backup generator.
"The radar is an important piece of equipment for both the Bureau and the North West community," Mr Bally said.
"This upgrade of the radar infrastructure ensures the West Takone radar can continue to service the Tasmanian community well into the future.
"As well as radar coverage, the community also has access through the Bureau's website to satellite images and MetEye, a service providing forecasts out to seven days on a 6x6km grid across Australia," he said.
