Heavy rainfall for southern central Queensland, Wide Bay and Fraser coasts

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall for southern inland Queensland between Emerald and Roma, extending east to the Wide Bay and Fraser coasts, between Bundaberg and Gympie.

After many weeks of dry, hot conditions the rainfall may provide some welcome relief, however communities in the warning zone are urged to take care as this heavy rainfall has the potential for flash flooding:

• Six-hourly rainfall totals in the 90-120mm range for the inland warning area; and
• Six-hourly rainfall totals in the 130-180mm range for the coastal warning area.

On Monday thunderstorms embedded in the rainband may be severe.

On Tuesday the trough system will move into the Coral Sea, with showers likely along the coast in the wake of the heavier rainfall.

This cooler airmass and cloud cover to the southwest of the trough will see temperatures fall to well below average.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services are urging the public stay tuned for the latest official forecasts and warnings from the Bureau, and follow the advice of local emergency services.

Avoid travel, if possible, while warnings are in place and remember: if it’s flooded, forget it.
