WEATHER UPDATE: Tropical low approaching southern Queensland

13/03/2018

METEOROLOGIST, GRACE LEGGE: Hello from the Bureau, a tropical low over the eastern Coral Sea will impact coastal areas of southern Queensland from Wednesday.

The low, currently northwest of New Caledonia is unlikely to develop into a Tropical Cyclone but will still have impacts on areas of Queensland.

The low moves south, southwest today and towards Queensland, it will track near the coast but likely to stay offshore.

On Wednesday it will move down the coast, bringing dangerous surf conditions, large swells, possible high tides in the morning and strong to even gale force winds along coastal waters of southern Queensland.

On Thursday the low will start to move southeast and further away from Queensland coast though the impacts are likely to remain along the coast, easing later Thursday.

Over the weekend we are likely to see the Monsoon trough becoming move active over northern Australia later this week and possible tropical lows developing, there is large uncertainty about what areas will be affected along the north coast.
