VIDEO NEWS RELEASE: Flood watch and severe weather warning for NSW

26/11/2018

A Flood Watch and Severe Weather Warning have been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology as of 4pm on Monday (26 November) ahead of a significant weather event that could affect major New South Wales population centers this week.

A low pressure system is expected to bring heavy rain to coastal areas of the state, most likely in the Sydney and/ or Illawarra areas. Intense rainfall is expected to begin on Wednesday morning, possibly in the early hours, and continue through the day.

While there is still some uncertainty about exact impacts at this point in time, it is possible this event could trigger riverine or localised flash flooding, or both. Damaging winds and hazardous surf conditions are also anticipated.

The Bureau of Meteorology has already begun briefing other public safety agencies, and is urging people to closely monitoring all warnings, especially in the wake of the state's extended dry period.

Short on camera interviews, current as of 4pm on 26 November, with Bureau forecaster Anita Pyne and Senior Hydrologist Alex Clifton are accessible to media here https://we.tl/s-KJaWFbEcr9
