Showers and thunderstorms likely to continue for New South Wales until next week

Showers and thunderstorms around north and east New South Wales are likely to persist into next week.
Severe thunderstorms are possible today in the Mid North Coast, Northern Tablelands and Northwest Slopes and Plains areas with localised heavy rain falls, as well as gusty winds expected. This threat shifts to northern inland areas on the weekend.
Rainfall totals of around 10-30mm a day are possible in parts of the east and north-west inland for the coming week, particularly between Wollongong and the south-east Queensland border region. Rain fall may be higher in some areas possibly reaching 50-100mm with thunderstorms.
During the first half of next week, a trough is expected to develop along the central and northern parts of the NSW coast. While this system is forecast to bring widespread rainfall across eastern NSW, rainfall totals are not expected to be as high as in late February and early March.
Rainfall from Monday to Wednesday is expected along the central and northern coast including the Mid North Coast, Northern Rivers, Hunter and possibly parts of Sydney and the Illawarra.
A minor flood warning is current for the Wollombi Brook. Moderate flooding is currently occurring at the Narran River at Angledool in the state's central north. The flood levels may increase to major on the Narran River and to moderate on the Culgoa River.
Due to recent rainfall, soils and catchments are saturated, dams are near capacity or full, so severe thunderstorms and persistent showers are more likely to lead to flash flooding and riverine rises. Landslips and fallen trees are also of concern due to recent flooding.
Communities should be prepared for flood impacts and are encouraged to keep up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings on the Bureau's website and BOM Weather app, and to follow the advice of emergency services.
