Issued at: 2:00pm Wednesday 4 May 2022

Very heavy rainfall and damaging winds are expected to develop across parts of the east and south of Tasmania from Thursday night until late Saturday.

The most severe weather is expected to occur on Friday during the day, with a deep low pressure system expected to develop near eastern Tasmania on Thursday then slowly move away from the coast on Saturday.

There is a risk of significant flash and riverine flooding across parts of the state's east and south.

Severe thunderstorms may also develop across parts of the south and east and may bring bursts of more intense rain.

Damaging south to south-easterly winds and damaging surf are also possible across parts of the south and east, mainly around the coasts.

Snowfall across high parts of the Central Plateau during Friday is also possible, with rain settling as snow above 1000 metres.

The weather is expected to gradually improve later Saturday, with mostly settled weather expected on Sunday.

Communities are recommended to stay up to date with warnings via the Bureau's website: Tasmania Weather and Warnings or the BOM Weather App and follow the advice of emergency services.
